Spartacus: Blood and Sand is a TV Show made by Starz, an US television network. I recently stumbled on this show on a local (not so legal) website, and i felled in love from the first 15min.
It has them all : action , blood (on sand), sex, (lots of) nudity, beauty, intrigues, love, drama and more action. I really like this TV show, and (not like others) every episode made me want to watch more .. Spartacus.
The TV Show is made by Starz and filmed entirely in New Zeeland. Actually lots of the crew members are related to New Zeeland
Cast
With a powerful and may i say beautiful cast, Spartacus rules in this chapter.
Andy Whitfield is Spartacus – a Thracian who becomes a gladiator in the ludus (school of gladiators) of Lentulus Batiatus.
Lucy Lawless (Xena) playing a secondary role - wife of Batiatus,
John Hannah as Batiatus and Manu Bennett as Crixus ..
And lots of other new good actors
Episodes
The first episode "The Red Serpent" was first aired on 22 January 2010, and the last episode - 13 "Kill them all" last week, on 16 April. The first 2-3 episodes introduces the audience into the Spartacus Story, his life before the arena and how he ended up in chains. Then we learn about the Roman high-life and their intrigues in politics and all not-so legal activities surrounding money and slaves. Every episode reveals something new and exciting, beside the Spartacus main story.
In the end ... well... I'm not going to write any Spoiler just that ... many good people will die, shitty true, but this is life.
Season 2
Season 2 was actually planned for 2011 but was delayed. Unfortunately Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) was diagnosed with a "light" form of blood cancer, i hope for the best for him and his family !
After seeing the final S1 episode i think it will follow the historical version , all for the best, we will see lots of big battles and more blood (on sand)..
History
For those who don't know, the Spartacus's story is based on true events (like 74-75 BC), in the Roman Empire. The facts were published on Spartacus official's blog too.
You can read more about the true story on wikipedia, along with lots of historical and media references. Also this is a good time to read more about the Gladiators, and learn about how the Roman Emperors fought beside them, winning the crouds admirations, and more ..
Spartacus story was already tested on cinemas and TV, the 1960 Spartacus with Kirk Douglas won 4 Oscars and 9 nominations, so at this chapter Spartacus Blood and Sand is a winner.
Conclusion : I aaammmm Spartaacuss !! A very bold REAL TV show !
